The Shade Tree Foundation

The mission of The Shade Tree Foundation is to provide safe shelter to homeless and abused women and children experiencing crisis, and offer life-altering services to promote dignity, stability, and self-reliance for every woman and child.

Shade Tree maintains that no one should ever have to endure homelessness, fear for personal safety without means to meet even the most basic human needs – food and shelter – and that every person, regardless of status in society, has the right to be treated with respect and dignity. As well, it is the belief of The Foundation that all homeless children are victimized by their lack of choice and mobility, that homelessness is a community problem that impacts everyone, and that everyone can be part of the solution.

Since 1990 The Foundation has served homeless and abused women and children, domestic-violence victims, those victimized by elder abuse and street violence, female veterans, homeless youth, and the physically disabled. Through programs offered by The Foundation, women can rebuild their lives, find employment, secure a permanent residence and become productive members of their community.

The shelter provides immediate safety from the harsh city streets, crime and domestic violence. Everyone is provided accommodations that ensure the dignity and respect of every person utilizing The Foundation’s services.

The Shade Tree Foundation is the only 24-hour accessible shelter designed specifically for the needs of women and children in Southern Nevada. It is also the largest facility of its kind in the state, with 364 permanent beds and 50 temporary beds. The Foundation provides 80,000 nights of shelter per year. On average, 33% of its clients are children under 18 years of age, and seniors represent the fastest-growing segment of the shelter’s population.

The upper floors of the facility contain residential areas with sleeping rooms, training rooms, restrooms, play rooms for children, libraries, kitchen, laundry, showers, and services for victims of violence. The basement is used to store donations and shelter supplies. All services provided by The Shade Tree Foundation are free of charge, regardless of the length of stay. This removes any barrier that may prevent a woman from accessing necessary services for herself and her children.
