Dallas Life Foundation
Over 50 years ago, Dallas Life Foundation began its service to the city
of Dallas. The Reverend Robert J. Key had a vision to help the homeless in
Dallas, and was first put into action when he and several others started
the Union Gospel Mission. After years working with that mission and seeing
the overwhelming need of the homeless, Reverend Key left to later establish
the Dallas Rescue Mission.
Reverend Key was an ordained minister who considered his church to be the
streets of Dallas. His true passion in life was ministering to the homeless.
He turned that conviction and passion into the Dallas Life Foundation, North
Texas’ largest homeless shelter.
The Foundation aids homeless members of the community through a series of
programs including the Good Samaritan Program to assist residents with mental
or physical disabilities, Senior Citizen Program to meet the needs of an
increasing senior population, the Quality Life Program, Food Service Career
Training/Security Career Training, Computer Training, and Relapse Recovery.
In addition, the Dallas Life Foundation provides resident services including
food, shelter, clothing, spiritual counseling, medical/dental/vision clinical
services, and children/youth services.
Today the Dallas Life Foundation is a charitable nonprofit organization
governed by a volunteer board of trustees and is designed to meet the
needs of homeless men, women, children and families in the Dallas-Fort
Worth metroplex, and is based in The Cedars neighborhood of downtown Dallas.
